Acura ILX Misfire Fault Code P0353
How to diagnose and repair engine misfire on Acura ILX with P0353 trouble code. Car is a 2015 Acura ILX with 2.0 liter engine and 170,000km on odometer. Vehicle is misfiring with erratic idle and loss of power.
How to Diagnose Misfire Acura ILX
OBD2 diagnostic shows a P0353 trouble code which specifies cylinder number 3 misfire. Cylinders are numbered one to four, counting from left to right. Replacing an ignition coil on this engine is easy, should take at most 20 minutes.
However, image above of OBD2 scanner shows cylinder number 2 when using air intake as a point of reference. Air intake is located on right side of engine block, cylinder number 3 becomes cylinder number 2 if counting from right to left instead of left to right.
Acura ILX misfire fault codes for cylinder misfire are: P0351, P0352, P0353, and P0354, last number of trouble code indicates cylinder number. P0300 is fault code for multiple cylinder misfire, failed spark plugs are usually the problem with a multiple misfire code.
Tools: 10mm wrench or 10mm socket/ratchet and a flat screwdriver.
Always replace spark plugs (if old) with new ones prior to changing engine ignition coils. Old or worn spark plugs will shorten ignition coil lifespan and might be the source of misfire. If you want to identify a ignition coil problem without changing spark plugs, do it by changing ignition coil position.
Change places of let’s say coil number 3 with coil number 4, clean codes and start/drive the car. If misfire jumps from cylinder 3 to cylinder 4, then you know is a coil problem. Anyways, spark plugs are strongly recommended to be replaced with new ones when engine has misfire issues.
