How To Change Automatic Transmission Fluid on Hyundai Tucson
How to Change Automatic Transmission Fluid on Hyundai Tucson: Vehicle is a 2015 Hyundai Tucson, 2.4L engine. However, transmission fluid replacement procedure is the same for 2.0L engines, 2010 to 2019 years of production.

Transmission Fluid Capacity Hyundai Tucson
Tucson automatic transmission has total fluid capacity is about 7 liters, but drain and refill procedure will drain only about 3.4 liters. Best way to go around it is by dilution, you should change transmission fluid two times.
Change transmission fluid once, drive the car for a week or so and then change it again. This will make sure almost all transmission fluid is replaced with fresh fluid.
While there are cheaper aftermarket transmission fluid alternatives, better spend a bit more and purchase Hyundai transmission fluid from a dealership, just to be on safe side. Hyundai Tucson transmission fluid is SP4-M 00232-15057.
As we said, you will need about 3.4 liters of fluid, but since transmission fluid comes in one liter bottles then you have to buy 4 liters.

Tools Needed to Change Transmission Fluid Tucson
You will need: a long thin funnel, 24 mm socket and ratchet, 3/8 extension drive, 10 mm and 12 mm socket, ratchet and flat screwdriver.
Also, as we said you will need 4 liters of Hyundai Automatic transmission fluid.
Hyundai Tucson Automatic Transmission Filler Plug
Hyundai Tucson automatic transmission filler plug in located on top of transmission, beneath air filter intake hose, on driver side of engine bay. Image below shows transmission filler plug location.
To gain access to transmission filler plug you need to remove air intake hose and air filter box cover. Start by releasing four clips on air filter box, same as you would when changing air filter.
Remove two vacuum lines. Use pliers to close clamps lips and release them. Pull vacuum hoses to separate them from air intake hose (image below).
Next, unscrew 10mm clamp bolt holding air intake hose to engine throttle body (Image below).
Do not completely remove air intake clamp bolt, only loosen it. Pull air intake hose to separate it from throttle body. This might take some force as air intake rubber usually is seized on throttle body. Remove air intake as a unit and put it aside (Image below).
You can clearly see on image above where clamp screw and intake hose vacuum hoses are located.
Draining Automatic Transmission Fluid Hyundai Tucson
Remove engine splash shield underneath the car. Engine splash shield in held in place with plastic clips and 12 mm bolts (image below).
After removing engine splash shield you will gain access to transmission drain plug. Transmission drain plug in located on drivers side of transmission housing Image below shows where transmission drain plug is located.
Hyundai Tucson automatic transmission drain plug is 24 mm bolt size. You will need a 24 mm socket and ratchet to remove it.
Place a pan directly underneath transmission drain plug to collect transmission fluid. Use 24 mm socket and ratchet to remove transmission drain plug and completely drain transmission fluid.
Transmission drain plug has a magnet used to collect metal shavings and other metallic debris. Use a rag or paper and clean transmission drain plug (image below).
Once transmission fluid is fully drained, screw transmission drain plug in place and tighten it. Install engine splash shield.
How to Replace Automatic Transmission Fluid Hyundai Tucson
As we mention it, automatic transmission filler plug on Hyundai Tucson is located on top of transmission beneath air intake hose.
There is an engine harness on top of transmission filler plug, which gets in the way. It is held with a plastic clamp. Use a flat screwdriver to open clamp and push engine harness aside (image below).
Transmission filler plug is plastic and fragile, use caution when you remove it or install it. Use 3/8 extension drive and unscrew transmission filler plug.
Insert funnel on transmission filler and slowly start pouring transmission fluid.
Pour transmission fluid very slowly, it might take 10 minutes to fill up transmission with 3.4 liters. transmission can absorb only a small fluid quantity at a time. If you pour too much it leak all over the place. Pour fluid slowly until you fill with 3.4 liters.
Install transmission filler plug back in place after you finish refilling.
As we said, transmission filler plug is plastic and can break easily. Do not tighten too much, just tight enough.
Install air intake unit and vacuum hoses, installation is reversal of removal. Start your car and go thru gears while parked first and then take it for a drive to check transmission operation.
