How to Change Honda Civic Key Fob Battery
How to Change 2015 – 2020 Honda Civic Key Fob Battery: Battery is important for proper key fob functioning. If you see a key fob battery warning light or key fob stops working, its time for a new key fob battery.
Changing battery on Honda Civic is very easy and can be done in few minutes. Key fob will not need any programing afterwards and should work normally after battery replacement.
2017 Honda Civic battery type is CR2032. Battery is a generic type and sold almost everywhere for $5 or so. Honda key fob is designed be split in two halves in order to change battery. Once key fob is divided, battery will be accessible for replacement.
Step 1: Remove key blade from key fob. Press button on key fob and pull key blade out of key fob body (image below).

Step 2: If you look at opening of key fob, you will see two plastic tabs in the middle. You can use either a screwdriver or blade key to open key fob.
Insert screwdriver between key fob plastic tabs. Twist screwdriver until key fob tabs unlocks and key fob is split in two halves.
Step 3: Open key fob and remove battery. Use screwdriver on battery side to remove it. Insert new battery. Make sure to notice battery polarity orientation. Positive side (+) is up.
Step 4: Reassemble key fob to previous configuration. Align and press key fob halves together until you hear them click firmly in place. Insert blade key back on key fob.
Check operation by locking/unlocking the car. As we previously said, reprogramming is not needed afterwards. Key fob will work normally after battery replacement.
