How to Clean Melting Dashboard Plastic in Your Car
As manufactured strive for a better feel and look of car interior plastics, things start to get complicated. They have to use chemicals to wrap plastic with rubberized compounds to make them feel more luxurious.
Image below shows Mercedes Benz light switch plastic which started to deteriorate or melt and become sticky. Usually, melting interior pieces happen to upscale or luxury cars (especially European ones), BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, etc.
However, these rubberized compounds start to deteriorate after some time, either due to sun or simply because rubberized compounds chemicals start to expire. What you will get as your car gets older is dashboard pieces starting to feel sticky and gluey. In any case there is a simple fix for that, you only need hand sanitizer with 70% alcohol and a clean cloth.

How to clean melting dashboard plastic in your car
As we said, you only need hand sanitizer and a clean cloth. Make sure to buy a hand sanitizer with at least 70% alcohol. Melting interior plastic is easily removed by alcohol and will leave a clean surface on your car dashboard or trim.
Apply hand sanitizer generously on plastic trim and leave it sit for a minute or so. No need to leave it too long, alcohol will start to remove melting plastic right away. Do not worry, hand sanitizer won’t hurt anything else on your car dashboard. It will only clean sticky or melting rubber plastic.
Wipe it down with clean cloth using a clean part of cloth every time, rotate it as it gets dirty with melting rubber compound. You need to do this several times until melted residue is removed completely.
Alcohol will clean the surface thoroughly. Plastic trim will be just as new after you are finished cleaning it, as easy as it gets.
