How to Replace Bmw Key Fob Battery: This key fob type is used in most Bmw models. Series 1/ 3/ 5/ 7/ X3/ X5/ X7 all use this design. There are two models: One key fob comes with a replaceable battery and other one comes with a rechargeable battery.

Battery on Bmw Key Fob

Battery can not be easily replaced on rechargeable key fobs. BMW rechargeable Key fob is not designed for battery replacement therefore requires cutting key shell to replace battery.

However, is possible to replace a rechargeable battery. Its time consuming as you will have to cut key shell in half and also needs a soldering tool for battery contacts.

How to Remove Key Fob Battery

Image above shows where BMW key fob battery cover is located. You can use a use a screwdriver to open battery cover or use own key fob blade. Press release button (blue circle) and remove key blade.

Remove old battery and replace it with a new one. Notice polarity of battery prior to removal. Install key fob battery with positive (+) side up.

How to Replace BMW Key Fob Battery: Install battery cover by pressing it in, put key blade back in place. No need for programming BMW key fob after battery replacement, it should work right away.
