How to Change Jeep Compass Engine Oil Pressure Sensor
Jeep Compass (2014) Symptoms: low oil pressure light illuminates on cold start (mornings) or when vehicle has been sitting for few hours. Restarting the engine solves the problem and oil pressure light goes off. Until it illuminates again on next cold start.
Do not drive your used car with low oil pressure light on, unless you are 100% sure its a sensor problem. If low oil pressure is caused by a failed oil pump or blocked oil passages severe engine damage will occur in a short period of driving.
Oil pressure was measured and was within normal parameters. Low oil pressure light stays on. Problem was narrowed down to oil pressure sensor failure.
Jeep Compass Oil Pressure Sensor Location
Oil Sensor on Jeep Compass (2014) is located in front of the engine, on top of Oil Filter Housing (image below).
How to Change Jeep Compass Oil Pressure Sensor: Jeep Oil Pressure Sensor removal: initially remove oil filter housing to gain access to Compass oil pressure sensor.
Tools: 13 mm socket and ratchet for oil housing bolts. Oil sensor removal socket or a 1-1/16 socket.
Jeep Compass Oil Filter Housing Removal
Remove oil filter by unscrewing it counterclockwise. Remove four 13mm bolts of oil filter housing. Bottom two bolts of oil filter housing are easy. Top two bolts are hidden and need more effort.
Jeep Compass oil pressure sensor is located behind oil filter housing.
Unplug electrical connection, use a flat screwdriver to push safety tab out (Red arrow, picture below). Press down on center lock tab on connector while pulling to unplug it (Blue arrow).
Use socket to unscrew old oil pressure sensor and install new pressure sensor.
How to Install Compass Oil Pressure Sensor: Tighten new oil pressure sensor, plug oil pressure sensor electrical connection. Install oil filter housing and oil filter.
Replacing oil pressure sensor in this case fixed oil pressure trouble light problem on cold start.
