KIA Sorento Misfire Code P0301: 2013 KIA Sorento, Awd 2.4 liter engine. Misfires are usually easily diagnosed with an OBD2 scanner, in this case cylinder one is misfiring, misfire code is P0301. Always replace spark plugs (if old) when you have a misfire situation, even if misfire is not a spark plug but an ignition coil problem.

Cylinders here are numbered one to four, from left to right. Each cylinder misfire correspond to a trouble code: P0301 cylinder one, P0302 cylinder two, P0303 cylinder three, P0304 cylinder four, wit P0300 indicating multiple misfire. There are other reasons, but quite often P0300 multiple misfire is caused by old or faulty spark plugs.
Tools: 10mm socket and ratchet, flat screwdriver. New KIA Sorento Ignition coil cost about $50 each.
Ignition Coil Removal Kia Sorento
Start with engine cover. Cover is installed on engine head using rubber bushings, lift engine cover upwards to remove it.
Proceed to unplugging ignition coil electrical connector. Use a flat screwdriver to push out ignition coil connector safety tab (grey color tab, image above), then press center locking tab on ignition coil connector to unplug it.
Sometimes ignition electrical plugs seizes on coil body, use a screwdriver to help remove it. Place screwdriver between coil connector and coil body, carefully use it as a lever to release ignition plug.
Check for oil leaks inside spark plug holes, if you see oil there then engine cover gasket and spark plug o-ring gaskets have to be replaced. Oil inside spark plug openings can deteriorate ignition coil rubber boots and/or create an electrical short causing engine misfires.
Remove ignition coil 10mm bolt and lift ignition coil out of engine head opening.

Apply dielectric grease on ignition coil rubber boot opening, where spark plug head inserts. Line up bolt holes on engine head and ignition coil body and install ignition coil on by pressing it in.
Install 10mm ignition coil bolt, do not over tighten coil bolts, finger tight will be good enough. Plug electrical connector and press in ignition coil electrical connector grey safety tab. Install engine cover, line up engine cover holes with engine head pins and press cover in. Start engine and leave it run a minute or so, check if everything is working properly.
